A Red Hat ~

donning
her red hat
she
pondered the thought
  of
purchasing
a fitting purple
dress
but decided
that
purple sweatshirts
and
flowers
suited her best
~ ~ ~
WARNING
by
Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Delightful, Susan.

And I have to laugh, because I didn't start wearing purple until I reached my '50s. Some colors just suit better those of us of a certain age.

Oh, what a gift you've given me, with the photo of that lovely little bird! I've never seen one before. And she is so very beautiful...

And of course that funny little poem : )

I love red hats...

Sweet! I took so many pictures of bird today in our 2 feet of snow fall. Oh how I love to feed and watch my birds. I saw birds I've never seen before today - not sure but I might have had a redpoll too.

I remember the first time I heard that poem - I was soooo much younger than I am now :)

Blessings - stay warm

I am always so captivated by your pictures and words. No matter what you capture on film, it is always so beautiful...from the finest of things to the very simple.

God has surely gifted you in so many ways.

You are a blessing and a breath of fresh air to me when I come here to visit.

Peace,
Alleluiabelle

Just catching up late at night after company left ...

Took some time to read about angels and candles and purple sweatshirts ... and you've provoked my thoughts again. Thank you.

My sister in law is a member of the red hat society but I don't think I could do it.

As much as this character poem fits me in many ways, I've never gone along with the "spit" one. Can't.

What a pretty bird! My husband recently made a wooden bird feeder on a stand to encourage the birds into the garden in this hard winter.
