The Elixir ~

health
happiness
prosperity
cries
the
flim flam man
as
he greedily grasps
the
price
extracted
for
a bottle
of
empty promises

all
the while
Jesus
quietly proffers
the
cup of living water
paid
for in full
by
Him

Starkness ~

these

bare-boned
structures

 haunt
the
imagination

concerning
winter's
resolute approach

The Bottle ~

You number and record my wanderings;
put my tears into Your bottle -- are they not in your book?
Psalm 56:8

Seeing Red ~

it's
said

there will be
snow

today

no
measurable amount

at least
that's
what they said

but
just in case
here's
a little shot
of autumn's flaming red

A Change ~

“Find beauty
not only
in the thing itself

 but
in the pattern of the shadows,
the light and dark

which that thing provides.”
Junichiro Tanizaki

A Path ~

it probably doesn't lead anywhere."

Just Wondering ~

who
is this arm-weary
lady
tugging reticent frost-bitten
plants
from
the ground
and
why doesn't she seek warmth
from
the autumn-chilled air
before the sun
disappears
he
wondered
as he braved a closer
look
at the crest of the hill

"it's you"
"you're the why"
her heart
quietly smiled
in reply
~ ~ ~
he thought it best
to return
to the others
at the edge of the woods

For the Hard Places ~

Gratitude ~

my
grandson
riding
his bike over
on
a
chilly October day

just one
of
the multitude
of things
I am
grateful
for

October's Blue ~

written
by
Helen Hunt Jackson

 these brilliant blue
October days
bring
precious memories
of my mother
and
this poem
that
she taught
to
her elementary pupils

Uncertainty ~

in
the midst
of
distractions

when
it's
difficult
to
focus

I can
still
enjoy the light

Faded ~

the
wind
tumbled
leaves old

like
the dryer
leaching
moisture

 on the last
cycle

autumn
grew faded
and
barrenness crept in

Quietness ~

may your day
be
filled
with peace

and
in quietness
may
you find strength

Food for the Journey ~

had
I
not seen
the robins dining

the imperfection
of
the berries

would have lost
their
sweet appeal
~ ~ ~
I would like to have caught
an
image
of the robins
but
they were eager
to
continue their journey
south
~ ~ ~
this was a reminder to me
that
the bruises in another
may
have come
from
feeding someone else
~ ~ ~
He
who covers over an offense
promotes love
but
whoever
repeats the matter
separates
close friends
Proverbs 17:9

Watching ~

in the warm glow
of
the kitchen

thinking
of
supper

I
glance
through the window

and see
him

he doesn't
see me

yet

but somehow he knows

someone's watching

another day

a
similar time

I
see her

she doesn't
see me

yet

but somehow she knows

someone's watching

I go
about my days

I
can't see Him

yet

but
I know

Someone's watching

and

guarding me

in
all of my ways

~ ~ ~

You gave me life
and
showed me kindness,
and
in your providence
watched over my spirit.
Job 10:12 NIV

Listening ~

if
I didn't
embrace
the
rhythm
if
my soul
could
hear no music

the world would be
a
lonely place

Thankful ~

thankful

for

torpid water touched

spittled mud

"great" and "little"
honored

second chances

the
"immediately"
and
the
"as they went"

for
humility that breathed
an
agonizing yes

thankful
for
so very much
