The Coming Season ~
“
One of the great lessons
the fall of the leaf teaches, is this:
Do your work well
and then be ready to depart
when God shall call
.”

Remembrance ~
for those who have
experienced
the absence of
a dear one's presence
“
Music I heard with you was more than music,
and bread I broke with you was more than bread.
Now that I am without you, all is desolate;
all that was once so beautiful is dead
.”
Conrad Aiken

Anticipation or Lament or Both ~
quite simply
the season
will conclude
winter
will come
another ring
will be added
to the tree
that bore the life
: : :
"Oh, death, where is thy sting?"
"Oh, grave, where is thy victory?"
1 Corinthians 15:55

Freeze Dried ~
we've
had our
first killing frost
beautiful in its own way
: : :
death lies on her
like an untimely frost
upon the sweetest flower
of all the field

Closing the Window ~
fiddles
and
giggles
3 spunky daughters
1 lanky son
tiny country grave
held
a baby boy
a tad beyond one
chickens
and
flowers
arduous kitchen hours
again
death
came knocking
the
youngest
now
motherless
had
only turned two
the eldest
morphed
mother
the husband
thrice
widowed
the family
grief
altered
the fiddles
subdued
homesteaded

Redemption ~
thinking
in
circles
woundings
of
the past
sacrificial
nail holes
Love's
scarred hands
redemptive
act
~ ~ ~
He was wounded for our transgressions
He was bruised for our iniquity
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him
and by His stripes
we are healed
Isaiah 53
