Grasshopper Green ~

... Poems ...
from the 1930's
in a book
that belonged
to my mother
~
she was a schoolteacher
she loved teaching
she loved her pupils
she loved poetry
she was still reciting poems
when she was 90
that
she had learned
as a child

The books ... the words ...
the paper ... the illustrations ...
the meaning of words
a bit different
then
than now
{if you click on the image you can read the poem}

The grasshoppers ...
well
pretty much the same
For another take on these
little critters
see
Beth's post for October 6
 In the meantime

keep on
embracing life!

Guest ~

The following poem
was written by my friend,Joanne,
for the birthday
of
a little girl
who
was about to turn five
and who
loves butterflies.

Jessica saw the shadow flitting by..
She let her brown eyes search the sky...
“What is that?” she asked her mind...
“Just what was that flutter-kind?”

She held the paw of a tiny kitten,
But another shadow came by flitten.
“What was that?” she asked again.
“What did I see flutter then?”

She looked around and saw the bushes,
And thought she heard some funny swooshes...
“What was that?” she asked herself.
“That could not have been an elf.”

“An elf is just a made-up thing.
Nothing that my God would bring
And let it fly around my head.
What is going on?” she said.

And then she saw another flutter,
Blue like cornflowers, gold like butter,
“Of course I did not know – it’s shy –
It’s my favorite

... FAVORITE ...

A BUTTERFLY!!”

Wisdom in the woods

If trees could talk ...

I suspect this one
would have
quite a lot to say

You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap.

October ~

Hanging on
in spite of frost
blooming
in spite of hardship
sharing beauty
sharing love
life
asks that
of us
sometimes
not
just to survive
but
to overcome
to
live in victory
not
just for ourselves
but
for others

Take time ~

When life is out of focus
and
time is rushing by

Take a moment ...

And nourish one another ...

Unrelenting Love ~

Life
demands brokenness
at times

It marches in
with unrelenting force
and snaps
a branch ... a limb ... a life
 leaves
its
jagged edges
open ... vulnerable ... raw ... alone

 And then
... He comes ...
the One who said
 ... This ...
this ... is my body ...
broken
for you

He comes
with
unrelenting love
and
heals
the brokenhearted

Guest ~

Today ... I am posting {with permission} a thought from my friend, Jeremy, who has wisdom beyond his young years. To me, it is both a compelling thought and a compelling question. Perhaps it is something you will want to ponder as well. Appreciate you, Jeremy, and your input.

"Thinking about how God was incapable ... incapable of remaining in heaven on His throne. He doesn't only experience the emotion of love and desire, it is part of His nature. And the nature of God emanates from the throne to the depths of the earth; and here on earth, face to face with us - is where His desire and love brings Him. In light of this reality, how then should we respond?"

Perseverance ~

What can one say?
There are some doors only the Lord Himself can open.
Perhaps that's why He instructed us
to knock
and keep on knocking
and then, to knock some more ...
