I went

looking

for

the green

of 

spring

but

found

instead

the

fingerprint

of

winter

a

little girl

with

festive curls 

infectious grin

dancing

eyes
once upon
a
time

she hugged her dolls

climbed the trees

read her books
tried to please
but

changes

came

and mystified
she hid
she cried
her world
grew
dark
distorted
twisted

once

upon
a

time

there. was.

I grew up in a home
with 
loving and supportive parents
not all little children are so fortunate
this is written for those little girls [and boys]
that haven't known a home
where there
is
love and nurture and encouragement
~ ~ ~

of
